I love how simple yet elegant the delivery was. Inside, there was even a handwritten card personally written by Lynsey. How could one not love Handmade Heroes? Such small gestures really makes one feel happy and blessed to receive this wonderful bag of goodies!

After trying out the Handmade Heroes products I was sent, here are some of my thoughts.

First up, Handmade Heroes: Butt Kickin’ Deep Detoxing Coffee Scrub – Cinnamon Chai

The name really caught my eye when I was browsing the website. Butt Kickin? Oh yeah, I would love to kick my cellulite away!! Go away fats!! Shooo~~

Upon opening the bottle, I noticed the texture was quite watery and I had to give it a stir. It was a bit messy after the shower as the bathroom floor was covered with coffee bits.

Inspiration struck me, and I placed my bottle of Handmade Heroes: Butt Kickin’ Deep Detoxing Coffee Scrub – Cinnamon Chai into the fridge. When I took it out of the fridge, I liked the drier texture. Even after leaving it outside in Singapore’s humidity for the next few weeks, the drier texture did not return to the initial watery texture when I first opened the bottle. Take a look at the before/after pics below!

And what does it look like when used on the body? Although the texture looks rough, the Handmade Heroes: Butt Kickin’ Deep Detoxing Coffee Scrub – Cinnamon Chai contains fine bits of organic rice as seen by the white bits…

My thoughts about Handmade Heroes: Butt Kickin’ Deep Detoxing Coffee Scrub – Cinnamon Chai?

Personally, I love the coffee scent as its smells really awesome. After trying on my body, I prefer to use it on the problematic cellulite areas such as my thighs, butt and tummy in the hopes that prolong use would butt kick the cellulite away! Also, I believe it would be awesome for the feet as it leaves a moisturised layer on my skin, though not that greasy. However for my body, I preferred to use the other scrub, which is Handmade Heroes: Super Duper Nourishing Rice Scrub – Christmas Mint.

So what makes this other Handmade Heroes: Super Duper Nourishing Rice Scrub – Christmas Mint my preferred scrub for the rest of my body?

First, see the before/after pic of the bottle when kept in the fridge:

Notice the drier texture after keeping it in the fridge? I prefer it this way, rather than slopping the watery scrub over my body. Guess its just my preference. So keep it in the fridge if you prefer like me to have a drier texture. Do note that the texture remains, it does not “melt” even after you leave it out for a long time after taking it out of the fridge.

And this is how it looks on my hands:

So why do I love this Handmade Heroes: Super Duper Nourishing Rice Scrub – Christmas Mint scrub?

Well, its smoother in texture compared to the Butt Kickin’ Coffee Scrub. But what makes this scrub stand out from all the other scrubs I have ever used is the fact that while using this scrub in the hot shower, I love the smell. Nice mint scent, reminds me of Christmas and of snow. Then when I come out from the shower, and after drying myself, that went the mint tingle starts. Its a nice pleasing and cool sensation. You have to try it out yourself, this is a great product! Just don’t get too excited and use too much of the scrub in the shower as you’ll end up probably having to wear a sweater! 😉

Overall, I really love the ideology behind Handmade Heroes and it is evident on the products:

On a sidenote, this is the nicest lip tint I’ve ever used. It does not taste weird and the color is just nice to give some life to my lips on those dull-looking days! I feel safe even if I were to consume the lip tint accidentally. Handmade Heroes states on their website that the Iron Oxide and Boron Nitride contained in the lip tints are naturally occurring with a low EWG hazard rating of 2 and 0 respectively.  Read their FAQ here.

[Orevo Asia Pte Ltd] Giveaway – Stephen James Organics 73 Deep Pink Himalayan Salt

We need salt in our lives. Our bodies are also made of salt. But not just any salt will do. We need to consume salt that is pure, natural and unprocessed by heating/detrimental commercial treatments.

Table salt in general, is not purely NaCl (sodium chloride). It is filled with additives such as iodine, anti-caking agents and other chemicals that when consumed, leads to toxin accumulation in the body.

So what’s the difference between ordinary table salt and sea salt?

Ordinary Table Salt: Typically mined from underground salt deposits. Filtered & sterilised at high temperature – this process destroys the mineral quality of the salt (heavily processed). Usually contains an additive such as anti-caking agents to prevent clumping. Most table salt has added iodine, an essential nutrient that helps maintain a healthy thyroid. However, any excess iodine stresses out our bodies and could lead to nausea, headaches and imbalanced hormone levels. Too much seems to cause cancer too, particularly in the thyroid gland.

Sea Salt: Produced through evaporation of water from the ocean or saltwater lakes, usually with lesser processing. Depending on the source of water, certain trace minerals and elements are left behind which could be potentially healthful. However, many sea salt manufacturers try to make their products look more like table salt, sapping it of everything there is to love in the process.

*Note*
Unrefined sea salt is the better option for favour and health. However, since manufacturers tend to make their packaging look like health food, it is important to read through the ingredients. If the only ingredient listed is sodium chloride, this so-called healthy natural salt is just as refined as the ordinary table salt. Also, ingredient labels won’t list how much of a nutrient it contains, look out for the colour of the salt. Unrefined salt is generally off-white or pink and not the pure white colour most of us are used to.

SGVegan_SJO 73 Himalayan Salt Comparison

What’s the difference between the salts above and Stephen James Organics (SJO) 73 Deep Pink Himalayan Salt?

SJO 73 Deep Pink Himalayan Salt: Comes from what was originally the Tibetan plateau, which over millennia, became the mountainous regions in the Himalayas in North Pakistan. The salts from the Himalayas are rich in mineral content and frequently dubbed “the purest salt on earth” by many health experts, untouched by pollutants from the sea & truly pristine.

This pure, unadulterated salt which contains a multitude of various minerals and ions that are bioavailable. This allows you to absorb and use all of those great minerals such as iron, potassium, magnesium and zinc.

So what are the benefits of SJO 73 Deep Pink Himalayan Salt?

  • Laboratory results show 73 ionically active minerals & elements in SJO Himalayan Salt. It contains more bioavailable iron than any other salts.
  • Proper balance of electrolytes result in improved digestion & better digestive-tract health.
  • Enhances the flavours of food, this is a priceless food preparation secret. It adds dimension to any food you’re working with.
  • Known in to stimulate circulation, balance blood pressure, boost immune system & balance the pH of the body.

As such, the composition of the salt we choose is vital, as our bodies are mainly comprised of water and salt, in a similar proportion to that of ancient and deep seas. Salt and water, can be said to be the essence of life. And the important minerals we need to consume are found in SJO 73 Deep Pink Himalayan Salt.

My thoughts:

I received a 1.5kg bag (as seen on right) of SJO 73 Deep Pink Himalayan Salt from Orevo Asia Pte Ltd, the exclusive distributor in Singapore for Stephen James Organics products.

Cooking

I’ve used Himalayan Salt before. However, I noticed a huge difference especially in my cooking. When I added SJO 73 Deep Pink Himalayan Salt to my organic vegetable soup (just boiled veg in plain water), the soup tasted sweet, instead of salty. As such, to offset the impact of radiation exposure, I added miso to the vegetable soup and it was a hit! Never before in my 15 years of eating self-prepared miso soup from the same miso brand, have I tasted such deep flavour.

Skincare

The week before, I happened to take an aura photo at Fu Lu Shou Complex, located near Bugis. My overall aura is an intense red as seen in the photo below. This indicates either vitality or stress. As I was in a stressful period, it was obvious to me that it can only be stress.

SGVegan_Aura Before Salt Scrub
SGVegan_Aura Before Salt Scrub

One week later, I decided to try out a salt scrub as I felt an imbalance in my body’s energy. I used the salt as an exfoliating scrub on the body and dissolved some for application on my face and scalp. It is not that rough on the body as the SJO 73 Deep Pink Himalayan Salt is double-grinded.

I was planning to leave the salt on my body for 5 minutes. However, using the SJO 73 Deep Pink Himalayan Salt, I ended up staying in the toilet for 15 minutes instead! I felt a calmness descend upon me, and could literally “feel” the 73 ionically active minerals & elements diffusing through my skin into my bloodstream.

I met a friend for lunch at Fortune Center. Since we passed by Fu Lu Shou Complex, I decided to pay for an aura photo to have a better idea of what my aura is like visibly based on how I feel.

Here’s the photo:

SGVegan_Aura After Salt Scrub
SGVegan_Aura After Salt Scrub

Overall, it is violet, which represents visionary. There is a report that comes with the photo saying that violet is a mix of blue (unlimited knowledge) and red (activity and power). Thus, spiritual evolution is in store for me, as violet indicates a time of in my life which I will be able to attain unlimited spiritual knowledge.

Anyway, this aura photo is just a physical visual representation of how I felt, which I feel was a good indication. I would caution against anyone to completely rely on aura, as it changes almost all the time based on your thoughts. Whatever that was taken in the snapshot for the photo, may just be indicative of your aura at that particular point of time. 🙂

For those who are interested, you can take your aura photo at Kangli Mineral Kingdom Pte Ltd, located at level 1 of Fu Lu Shou Complex. There are both English and Mandarin Reports. It costs S$10 for a report without consultation. I would suggest to go without consultation if you are not looking to purchase any crystals as the report is self-explanatory.

I’ve been using this SJO 73 Deep Pink Himalayan Salt as part of my weekly shower regime. I noticed less hair fall too! ^_^

Now for the giveaway!

I will be giving away 2 x SJO 73 Deep Pink Himalayan Salt Bottle (360g) worth S$19/bottle.

It is great for cooking and skincare. Basically, it is the best unadulterated salt for you and your family.

Amanda’s Homemade Sugar Scrub

Most of the time, when we want to exfoliate the dead skin on our bodies, we turn to salt scrubs.

Dead sea salt scrub, sea salt scrubs…

How about a sugar scrub?

In fact, sugar scrubs are much better than salt scrubs.

Why?

Sugar being easier to dissolve, does not exfoliate the skin as hard as salt. So using a sugar scrub is suitable even for people with sensitive skin condition! 🙂

Introducing my very own homemade, DIY Sugar Scrub!

Over the past 3 weeks, I have been experimenting with 3 sugar scrub batches that I made personally in my own kitchen.

Making the scrub is really easy, all it requires is simply just 15-30 minutes and you get a scrub that can last you for a really long time.

As I was still in the midst of experimenting, I decided to share portions of my sugar scrub with my close friends to get some feedback.

First of all, I would like to state that it was mainly Lush’s sugar scrub that inspired me to embark on making my own sugar scrub.

Introducing the ingredients of my very own homemade sugar scrub:

The tablespoon contains:

Why did I add this in?

Sunflower oil acts as a moisturiser so that the sugar scrub exfoliates while moisturising the skin.

In addition, sunflower oil has a calming effect on the skin which is highly recommended for people with sensitive skin conditions and heals the skin. It contains Vitamin E, which has anti-aging properties making skin look young!

Thus, Amanda’s homemade sugar scrub contains:

* 1 cup raw organic brown sugar
* some old ginger (any type of ginger & amount as you wish)
* 1 tablespoon organic cold-pressed sunflower oil
* 1 tablespoon secret ingredient

Besides using the organic raw brown sugar as base of the sugar scrub, the main ingredient is the old ginger.

Ginger was used mainly due to its anti-cellulite properties.

As I did not want to use chemical means to remove cellulite from certain *troublesome* areas on my body, I discovered that ginger is a natural well-known herb for combating cellulite.

How does ginger do it?

Apparently ginger promotes oxygen flow around the body. Cellulite builds up when cells become sluggish, degrading over time. When oxygen gets to the cellulite, the cells are able to function more effectively and efficiently. And, ginger will ensure that the optimal amount of oxygen will get to the cellulite.

Another plus point of using ginger is due to its ability to remove the toxins from the body. If I am not wrong, the skin tone is improved due to its antioxidant inhibiting the harmful free radicals that causes skin damage and aging.

Thus, by using ginger, it burns fat and removes toxins! 🙂

What a powerful simple ingredient!!

So how did I prepare my sugar scrub?

Firstly, I grated the old ginger using the grater as shown in the picture above (it is fine to use any type of ginger) and mixed it with the tablespoon of organic cold-pressed sunflower oil. If you have a blender, feel free to simply blend the ginger.

At this point, I mixed in the secret ingredient! *Note: this picture below was for 2 cups of sugar scrub instead*

Next is to add in the cup of organic raw brown sugar and mix!

Notice the chunks within the sugar?

Make sure to continue mixing it well, until you get this consistency:

Of course, what does the homemade sugar scrub look like when its used?

Do you see there are some soap studs? It is all due to the secret ingredient, that contains both fresh and natural ingredients, so you can rest assure that your skin will feel good! 😀

So far, from the feedback I have gathered, this sugar scrub is well-loved.

Does any one wants to make a guess what is the secret ingredient? Do leave a comment below and who knows, you might win yourself Amanda’s homemade sugar scrub! 🙂

Do subscribe to SGVegan with your email at the top right corner of the page. I will be updating the identity of the secret ingredient soon so you can make your own sugar scrub. Stay tuned!
